We are Camelia Elias & Bent Sørensen

We embody Aradia Academy and teach you what we know. We read cards like the Devil. This is the equivalent of saying that we’ve developed penetrating vision in reading cultural and visual texts.

We see things as they are. We point to how others can read too, drawing out the distinction between ability and desire. We work in such a way so that this work ends up speaking for itself. That’s our ambition.

Camelia’s background

When Camelia got tired of her tenured professorship at Roskilde University, where she served in the capacity of chair of American Studies for 10 years, she decided to start her own school, opening its doors in 2017.

With the help of her students in her epic course Cards and Magic – epic according to the students’ evaluations – Camelia orchestrated the casting of spells for Aradia Academy. She is, after all, a daughter of Aradia, born in Transylvania in the city of Arad. Aradia Academy had to happen. It did. You are here because magical folks got together and did their thing. You’re here because of magic.

Read more about Camelia’s work, writing, editing, web design, photography, and talismanic calligraphy at her own website.

For her monthly live encounters with the students, check out her Read Like the Devil practice club.

Bent’s background

Bent is also a former professor at Aalborg University. His field was American Studies with a specialization in popular culture, particularly the 60s.

He retired from his professorship in August 2018, and is now not only assisting Camelia in her courses, taking over her foundation courses in cartomancy, but also teaches under his own banner, The Janitor’s Corner, often from a Freudian perspective. Check out his corner here.

His frequently makes his academic research into the Tarot and the poets and writers of the 60s available to Aradia Academy students in the form of individual lectures and essays.

Those familiar with Bent’s communicative skills testify to his sharp eye and very wry sense of humor, both in the Aradia Academy Alumni group and in the live classes. He answers all questions with competence and aplomb.

Together at Aradia Academy we inspire genuine motivation for the learning that matters.

Affiliations

Aradia Academy has two affiliated branches. One is the publishing house EyeCorner Press, and the other is the Read Like the Devil practice club.

The first publishes books focusing on poetics: from critical theory and philosophy to practices of divination, from poetry and drama to visual language and bi-lingual translations.

The Read Like the Devil enterprise features a selection of Camelia Elias’ texts in the method, philosophy, and practice of divination and the possibility to be part of her live encounters with the students.

Enjoy our offerings. Read like the Devil at Aradia Academy.
